Sitting out the WotLK hype

The expansion is now in beta with no NDAs, so lots of info on Wrath of the Lich King is coming out. I'm mostly ignoring it. My friends are unpacking all the new talents and drooling over how OP they'll be or complaining about how they're not going to be awesome. Totally ignoring that; it'll be awhile before they balance out the talents. I'm a bit more interested in the new content, but I'd rather enjoy it once when it's done and be surprised by it all. Really the only thing I want to know about ahead of time is what materials Inscriptions will require so I can start laying in a stockpile. (Turns out it's herbs).

What I'd most like to hear about is a game engine refresh; I'd love to see some more detailed textures like the Murloc suit, or some new fancy lighting like in Nagrand or Azshara. But I've heard no promises of that, so maybe not.

BTW, Blizzard is very crafty about publicity timing. We saw the first waves of public WotLK data come out the week Age of Conan was released. And this open beta stuff is hitting the same week as the big E3 games convention. That's not by accident.
