Didn't know if anyone posted this, but here it is.
If you are doing a chain in Borean Tundra you can obtain this quest:
Khu'nok Will Know - Quest - World of Warcraft
And you have to return the oprhaned mammoth, but if you abandon the quest, it stays. You can have your own companion until you logout
